Hello! I’m Jen and I have O.C.D.
Did you know that individuals with O.C.D.., and other mental disorders, are roughly 10 times more likely to commit suicide? Sadly enough, I have come close to adding to that statistic before I learned about what I was enduring.
Like many individuals with mental disorders, I was not properly diagnosed and treated for O.C.D. until I was 30 years old. I am just now truly learning about this disorder and how it affects not only myself, but those around me. As you can imagine, I walked through many years of feeling so detached from myself and others, as I struggled to understand what I was going through internally and externally.
This blog is my very first effort in striving to bring to light the conversations most people try to avoid. My hope is to create an environment that fosters real conversation mixed with helpful (personal) stories and practical advice. By no means am I an expert on mental disorders, as 99% of this blog will be built from personal experiences living with O.C.D..
I hope at least one person will experience a better understanding of how to thrive in life, despite medical conditions and mental disorders. And I believe healthy communication is the first step. My biggest desire is for every reader to fully understand that they are created on purpose, and with purpose!
